Satisfy your sweet tooth with this healthy frozen yogurt. You only need 4 ingredients and it requires no churning! Sweetened with honey and so creamy, this is the ultimate summer treat.

Update: This recipe was originally published in 2017 and has been republished with all new photos.

The temperatures are high these days so a refreshing snack is always a good idea. Nothing beats the heat quite like frozen yogurt. Sticky fingers and sticky faces (I know it’s not just my kids) are a small price to pay for a cup or cone of all that cold sweetness.

With this recipe for Healthy Strawberry Lemon Frozen Yogurt I’m showing you how easy it is to skip the store-bought variety and whip up your own. My version has no sugar and only 4 simple ingredients. You just toss them in a blender and then freeze for 1 to 2 hours. Voila!

Enjoy a scoop (or three) in a cone or bowl. Ah, summer. How I love you so.

Healthy Strawberry Lemon Frozen Yogurt Ingredients

  • Frozen strawberries: We’re including lots of frozen strawberries in this frozen yogurt for maximum strawberry flavor. Since they’re already frozen they also help us achieve the texture we want quickly!
  • Plain unsweetened yogurt: Use any yogurt you like. I opt for plain unsweetened whole milk greek yogurt but low fat or non fat work too (keep in mind that the less fat you include the less creamy your finished frozen yogurt will be).
  • Honey: Honey is my sweetener of choice for this frozen yogurt. It has anti-inflammatory properties and a lower glycemic index than sugar, meaning it won’t spike your blood sugar levels as quickly.
  • Lemon juice: The lemon flavor in this frozen yogurt isn’t overpowering. If you’d like this to be more tart you can add a bit extra!

What kind of yogurt is best in frozen yogurt?

I use whole milk unsweetened greek yogurt because that bit of fat helps make the finished frozen yogurt creamy and I rely on the honey to provide the sweetness you want. The more fat in your yogurt, the creamier your frozen yogurt will be.

You can use a regular yogurt or a greek yogurt.

You can also use yogurt with any percentage of fat. Low fat or non fat are good options. Keep in mind, you’ll have a less creamy result but it will still be great.

You can even use a sweetened yogurt if you prefer. I’d recommend reducing or omitting the honey if you do so. Just give it a taste before freezing and adjust as needed.

Can you omit the lemon juice?

Yes. The lemon flavor is mild in this frozen yogurt but you can choose to omit it completely if you’d prefer.

Healthy Strawberry Lemon Frozen Yogurt

Satisfy your sweet tooth with this healthy frozen yogurt. You only need 4 ingredients and it requires no churning! Sweetened with honey and so creamy, this is the ultimate summer treat.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup plain unsweetened yogurt
  • â…“ cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a food processor or high powered blender. Blend until smooth and creamy.
  • Pour into a loaf pan or another similarly sized container.
  • Place in the freezer for 1 to 2 hours, until frozen but creamy when scooped. If you leave it in the freezer too long simply let it thaw on the counter for 15 to 20 minutes or until scoopable again.

Notes

Homemade frozen yogurt gets hard and freezes solid in the freezer (because we’re using simple natural ingredients only) so it’s always best the day it’s made. If you don’t finish it that day you’ll want to take it out of the freezer about 20 minutes before you’re planning to eat it so it has time to thaw.
