This healthy french onion dip recipe is made with nonfat greek yogurt. This creamy dip is lighter than classic french onion dip and delicious with chips or fresh veggies!

Here’s a thing that’s been true about me since I was probably ten years old. French onion dip is my absolute favorite guilty pleasure snack. And I’m calling it a guilty pleasure because I cannot control myself around it. I have never been a person who can enjoy a reasonable amount and then stop. If I open a container of that dip I will keep eating it until that carton is bone dry. In fact when I was in high school my Grandma Bessie would always buy french onion dip and potato chips if she knew I was coming to visit. One time she pulled it out of her fridge and handed it to me while declaring “dip for the dip!”. I’ve repeated that phrase so many times since. It always makes me laugh that she called me a dip.
Now cut to me in adulthood. Since I know I give up any semblance of self control around french onion dip, for years I’ve only purchased it about once a year. It’s almost always on a day when everything has just gone wrong. I buy a whole container for myself. Then I sit with it, a bag of ruffles potatoes chips, and some trash tv until it’s all gone. I wouldn’t say that I feel better after. In fact I feel pretty horrible because I’ve eaten too much and need a lie down.
Here we are in present day. I’m happy to report I’ve finally created a healthy onion dip recipe that satisfies my decades-long craving. The best part? This high protein snack doesn’t leave me feeling like I’ve consumed seven days worth of calories. My dip is made with simple ingredients – plain greek yogurt, a little lemon juice, worcestershire sauce, and flavorful dried herbs and spices. It’s low fat, good for you, and the perfect creamy dip for chips or fresh veggie sticks. I can’t wait for you to try this crowd pleaser!

Healthy French Onion Yogurt Dip Ingredients
- Plain nonfat greek yogurt: Select a plain (unflavored and unsweetened) nonfat yogurt. Thick greek yogurt is creamy and low in calories so it’s the perfect choice for this healthy dip.
- Lemon juice: A little lemon juice will help neutralize the mild flavor of the greek yogurt.
- Worcestershire sauce: A splash of worcestershire sauce adds a tanginess to our chip dip.
- Dried minced onion: Dried onion is an often overlooked seasoning in my opinion. It has a sturdier consistency than onion powder so it packs a flavor punch that works beautifully in this dip. You’ll find it in the spice aisle of your grocery store with the other seasonings.
- Dried herbs: Dried thyme and dill help add a delicious flavor to our creamy dip.
- Garlic powder: We don’t want the garlic to overpower the onion in this dip so we’re just using a little.
- Salt: Salt enhances the flavor of the dip. Taste the dip before serving and add more salt if you like.
