You’ll only need 5 ingredients plus water and a small bowl to achieve this creamy mustard sauce! Drizzle it or use it as a dip. It’s so good with chicken, sausage, burgers, wraps, and sandwiches!
When I shared my recipe for 3-Ingredient Honey Mustard a few weeks ago, I knew that I wanted to make something with big mustard flavor that was more on the savory side. Naturally it had to be just as easy because this gal likes to keep things simple. It took a few tries, but here we are with this Easy Mustard Sauce that all my mustard lovers will appreciate!
The best part? Well aside from how fast it is of course. The best part is that this baby is dairy free, gluten free, refined sugar free, Paleo, Keto, and Whole30! (Just make sure the mayo you use is also all those things if that’s your jam.)
If it’s a mustard sauce, why does this sauce include mayo? Good question. Glad you asked. There are two reasons.
First, whether you realize it or not, mayo is the base for lots of creamy sauces. Mayo is really just a blend of oil, egg, lemon juice, and seasonings. So by starting with a store bought mayo here we’re saving ourselves a few steps! And I am always on board with that.
Second, mayo generally has a very mild flavor. It’s the perfect balance for the tangy bold flavor of mustard and it does a great job mellowing it out a bit!
I like to pick a high quality mayo that’s dairy free and doesn’t contain sugar. You can use whatever brand you prefer. I really enjoy the mayos from Tessemae’s, Primal Kitchen, and Chosen Foods.
What else goes into this sauce? We’re using dijon mustard instead of regular yellow mustard. It’s creamier and contains less vinegar. I’ve tested this with several other kinds of mustard and dijon is the clear winner. Garlic and salt amp up the taste. A smidge of water helps thin the sauce so you can drizzle it. That’s it!
Pair this sauce with chicken, beef, or sausage (see my Sausage & Veggie Bowls with Easy Mustard Sauce). Drizzle over roasted veggies or crispy potatoes. Add it to sandwiches, burgers, and wraps. There are so many ways to serve this!

I can think of so many reasons to keep this on hand!
I made Dijon mustard for the first time last night. Very easy and all ingredients I keep on hand. Now, I will have to use my Dijon mustard in this recipe that looks delicious! 😋
