A little sweet. A little tangy. You only need 3 ingredients and 5 minutes or less to create this creamy honey mustard sauce. Enjoy it as a dip, dressing, and topping for basically everything!
Update: This recipe was originally published in 2020 and has been republished with all new photos.
Honey Mustard has long been my husband’s favorite condiment. I’m not exaggerating when I say he won’t eat a salad without it. But it’s so much more than just a dressing! I love this creamy sauce as a dip for chicken fingers, crispy chicken nuggets, sweet potato fries (any french fries really), and veggies. There are so many different things you can enjoy it with.
When I started working on a homemade honey mustard recipe a few years ago I got super creative. I used lots of ingredients and let me just say that was totally unnecessary. Over the years I’ve learned to simplify it to only 3 simple ingredients. No weird preservatives and made with only simple pantry staples. Now this easy recipe is just right! You’re going to really appreciate the taste and ease of this pretty perfect (if I do say so myself) 3-Ingredient Honey Mustard my whole family loves.
Some honey mustard is more mustard and some is more honey. We think the perfect sauce is a bit on the sweeter side but still has a tangy flavor. That balance is so important. Read on to see how I make the very best honey mustard recipe.
Honey Mustard Sauce Ingredients
- Mayonnaise: Use regular mayo or light mayo. This is an essential ingredient which balances out the strong flavor of mustard and the sweetness of the honey. It also makes your sauce creamier.
- Honey: It wouldn’t be honey mustard without honey! There are several options for honey but whichever you choose will work. I have tested this with both raw honey and clover honey. Use what you have.
- Dijon mustard: Dijon mustard gives us the tanginess we want in a honey mustard sauce.
How to Make Honey Mustard Sauce
To make, simply combine the ingredients in a small bowl and stir until you have a smooth sauce. You’re only a couple of minutes away from the very best honey mustard sauce. It doesn’t get much easier than that!
Taste and add more honey or dijon mustard if desired. You can even add a pinch of salt or cayenne pepper for a little kick if you like. (I stick to the original recipe and don’t make any adjustments when I prepare this.)
Can you use yellow mustard?
I strongly recommend sticking with dijon mustard for the perfect flavor in this tasty sauce.
