Wondering what to make tonight? Quickly throw together this hearty one pot meal of turkey and potatoes! Serve over roasted veggies, traditional rice, or cauliflower rice for a healthy and satisfying dinner.

This Ground Turkey & Potato Skillet was loosely inspired by a classic picadillo. It has very different flavors – a picadillo includes olives and raisins. That’s not going to fly with my children. Or my husband, if I’m being honest. But I wanted to take that general idea and make it family friendly with very simple ingredients. We all need hobbies and that’s mine.
This meal is an accurate reflection of my favorite kind of meal to make at home. It may not be the prettiest, but it’s tasty. The addition of potatoes keeps it hearty. And it’s just so easy! This is exactly the sort of comfort food I need in my life right now. How about you?

To create this meal, you’ll start by seasoning and browning the ground turkey. Set aside. (Of course you can easily use a lean ground beef if that’s what you have on hand or prefer.)
Then the potatoes go in the pan to get a little color. Now incorporate the turkey, garlic, tomato sauce, water, and more seasonings. Reduce the heat, cover, and let it all simmer until your potatoes are tender.
It’s next to impossible to screw this up. It’s just that easy!
What potatoes are best to use?
I prefer yellow or gold potatoes. But russet, sweet, or red would all work beautifully too!

How to serve this skillet meal?
Oh there are so many ways to serve up this easy meal. You can clearly enjoy it as is and itโs just perfect. Flavorful. Healthy. Satiating thanks to those potatoes.
But perhaps you want to add something to stretch this dish a bit further? I know I always like something green on our plates! Pile this delicious combo of turkey and potatoes over roasted veggies like my Spicy Roasted Broccoli or Easy Roasted Broccoli (if you don’t like heat). That will give you an added boost of vegetables! This is also crazy delicious over traditional or cauliflower rice!
Other veggies that work beautifully either layered under or just served beside this skillet meal are Garlic Green Beans, Simple Sautรฉed Cabbage, or Roasted Green Beans with Almonds.
Want to add a salad to your meal? My Blueberry Citrus Salad or my Berry Avocado Salad have a hint of sweetness which will balance out the strong flavor of this popular dish!

No matter how you choose to serve this, youโre going to love it. This recipe earns rave reviews on Instagram for good reason!

I was looking for a new recipe to use ground turkey in and came across this recipe. Absolutely delicious. My husband had rice with his and I did a cauliflower mash. The only thing I did different was to eliminate the tsp. of salt to create a lower sodium dish and added a little more garlic and onion powder to compensate for the salt. ย I also had some with my eggs this morning. Its a keeper, thanks!! Look forward to trying more of your recipes now that I found your site.
Wow! What a fantastic and easy recipe! I had a package of ground turkey I got as a mistake in a grocery order and didnโt know what to do with it, did a quick Google search and this is it!!! I used this exact recipe, doubled the amount of spice (our family loves spicy), added a cup of rinsed black beans and WOW! This will be a new staple in our menu rotation! So delicious and flavourful and the leftovers….MY GOD EVEN BETTER THE NEXT DAY!! Thank you for sharing this gem! I will forever return to this one! A million thumbs up from a ย very full and beyond satisfied family over here! ๐๐ฝ
I donโt think Iโve ever left a recipe review in my life, but this recipe is so good I just had to!!
My Walmart delivery order accidentally forgot to bring my chicken breast which left me scrambling to make dinner with what I had on hand. I found this recipe and thought Iโd give it a try and honestly, I had very low expectations. I was extremely impressed when I took my first bite and my husband was too!!! This will totally be in our dinner rotation. Itโs such a great recipe and can be customizable for what you are in the mood for or have on hand. I used a mix of sweet potato and baby Yukon gold. I added also added shallot and diced onion. Next time I might even add carrots and celery. It was seriously phenomenal!ย
So easy and quick to prepare! A real winner when you have a toddler at your feet.
Loved this quick and easy meal! Added zucchini and was so delicious! A family pleaser for sure.
Delicious! I have made this twice now and my family has loved it both times. Simple and tasty dinner! Thank you
Thanks for the recipe. It was a new idea for making dinner with ground turkey. I didn’t follow it exactly. I put in a few tomatoes instead of tomato sauce. It tasted good. We all enjoyed it. Thanks again.
“What to make for dinner?” is a question I ponder daily. With 1 pound of ground turkey left in the fridge and desperately needing to grocery shop, I turned to google searching “ground turkey recipes” and this recipe came up. Skimming through it, I was grateful to see I had the ingredients in my pantry (woo hoo!) so no need to run to the store. I read through the rave reviews and told myself this one would be a winner. Yup, this sure was! I made this tonight and wow, this was GOOD!!! Flavorful and filling are a winning combination in my book. This whole meal came together in less than an hour and it was a hit. I sautรฉed onions with the potatoes because why not? I also used fire roasted diced tomatoes since I didn’t have tomato sauce and figured it would be fine and it sure was. The hubs approved the meal which is always an honor! This recipe marks all the check boxes: gluten free – check! Dairy free – check! Healthy – check! Delicious – check check check! Thank you, this was amazing and making it again and again!!
Loved this recipe. Made a couple modifications as preference.
1/4 t less salt.
I add diced onions while browning potatoes (cause I love onions).
Added browned turkey after simmering potatoes four minutes to prevent drying out.ย
My kids devoured this and they are picky! ย I am super excited to find something they BOTH will eat! ย I added seasoned black beans and taco cheese and it was SUPER yummy!!!ย
