Wondering what to make tonight? Quickly throw together this hearty one pot meal of turkey and potatoes! Serve over roasted veggies, traditional rice, or cauliflower rice for a healthy and satisfying dinner.

This Ground Turkey & Potato Skillet was loosely inspired by a classic picadillo. It has very different flavors – a picadillo includes olives and raisins. That’s not going to fly with my children. Or my husband, if I’m being honest. But I wanted to take that general idea and make it family friendly with very simple ingredients. We all need hobbies and that’s mine.
This meal is an accurate reflection of my favorite kind of meal to make at home. It may not be the prettiest, but it’s tasty. The addition of potatoes keeps it hearty. And it’s just so easy! This is exactly the sort of comfort food I need in my life right now. How about you?

To create this meal, you’ll start by seasoning and browning the ground turkey. Set aside. (Of course you can easily use a lean ground beef if that’s what you have on hand or prefer.)
Then the potatoes go in the pan to get a little color. Now incorporate the turkey, garlic, tomato sauce, water, and more seasonings. Reduce the heat, cover, and let it all simmer until your potatoes are tender.
It’s next to impossible to screw this up. It’s just that easy!
What potatoes are best to use?
I prefer yellow or gold potatoes. But russet, sweet, or red would all work beautifully too!

How to serve this skillet meal?
Oh there are so many ways to serve up this easy meal. You can clearly enjoy it as is and itโs just perfect. Flavorful. Healthy. Satiating thanks to those potatoes.
But perhaps you want to add something to stretch this dish a bit further? I know I always like something green on our plates! Pile this delicious combo of turkey and potatoes over roasted veggies like my Spicy Roasted Broccoli or Easy Roasted Broccoli (if you don’t like heat). That will give you an added boost of vegetables! This is also crazy delicious over traditional or cauliflower rice!
Other veggies that work beautifully either layered under or just served beside this skillet meal are Garlic Green Beans, Simple Sautรฉed Cabbage, or Roasted Green Beans with Almonds.
Want to add a salad to your meal? My Blueberry Citrus Salad or my Berry Avocado Salad have a hint of sweetness which will balance out the strong flavor of this popular dish!

No matter how you choose to serve this, youโre going to love it. This recipe earns rave reviews on Instagram for good reason!

This recipe was easy and very tasty. I have a picky eater and he said ” Delicious”. Definitely a recipe worth keeping.
Oh I love that! Thank you!
Tried and love this recipe! Definitely adding into our rotation!ย
Made this for dinner tonight! Winner! So tasty…served it with the roasted spicy broccoli. Comforting food for a cold night.
Everything went great with this recipe except for the amount of salt and pepper needed. I found my recipe to be a tad on the bland side without an ample increase of both. Otherwise, an easy recipe to follow and I even added some shaved carrot pieces toward the end for a little different texture. Served it with Jasmine rice. Table of 4 happy people. Thanks.
I would use onion when cooking the turkey. It needs that flavor. Other than that, this was VERY easy and Iโm using it to meal prep which is very nice. I enjoyed making this. My parents used what I had left over for breakfast in a breakfast burrito with cheese! Really good, too ๐๐ผ
Great recipe!!!
It has become one of my familyโs favorite. ย
This is lovely! Thank you so much!
Great recipe! I also added 1 pepper and 1 onion and some mushrooms itโs so delicious ๐คค๐
Love the additions! Thanks, Jenna!
I cut the salt by half in all the steps and it was delicious! I roasted frozen french cut green beans and stirred them in at the last step. I also added a can of diced tomatoes. Thank you we loved it!
I was surprised by how spaghetti-ish this was and was a little hesitant as I plated it. My spaghetti hating husband said it was delicious (I thought so too) and I liked getting to have spaghetti flavors without noodles.
This was really tasty. ย I added half an onion when browning the potatoes. ย I willย
definitely make this again.
